BUICK AMONG THE BEST IN INITIAL QUALITY!

From the JD Power Report

This year, 28 models from General Motors brands rank
among the top three in their respective segments, and GM
plants receive Gold and Silver awards for highest initial
quality in North/South America for three years running.

The results of the J.D. Power and Associates 2004 Initial Quality
StudySM (IQS), Vehicle Dependability StudySM (VDS), and
Customer Service Index (CSI) StudySM demonstrate GM’s
continuous improvement on vehicle quality, durability,
manufacturing, and dealer service.

For the second consecutive year, GM initial quality leads the
domestics and exceeds that of several Asian and European
makes. Since 2000, GM initial quality has improved 27%—
outpacing the industry average rate of improvement during that
time.

Today, GM ranks fifth in initial quality and fourth in longterm
dependability among 14 corporations producing vehicles
for the U.S. market. GM builds and sells Buick, Cadillac,
Chevrolet, GMC, HUMMER, Pontiac, Saturn, and Saab vehicles.

The number of brands that perform well in both initial quality
and long-term dependability are few—Cadillac and Buick are
among this elite group. Ranking No. 2 among 37 nameplates,
Cadillac surpasses the initial quality of nearly all luxury and nonluxury
brands in the U.S. market.

With 93 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100), Cadillac outpaces the industry average by 22%.
Coming in at No. 5 (in a tie), Buick initial quality exceeds that
of more than 31 industry nameplates, including several luxury
marques from Germany and Japan. With 100 PP100, Buick
exceeds the initial quality average by 16%.

After three years of ownership, models from Buick and
Cadillac continue to perform well. Buick ranks No. 2 and
Cadillac ranks No. 5 in the area of long-term dependability. With
187 PP100—an average of less than two problems per vehicle—
Buick outperforms the industry average by 30% while Cadillac
outperforms the industry average by 27%.
