GMC ANNOUNCES 2007 YUKON!

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - General Motors unveiled the vehicle platform that will be the basis of a redesigned 2007 model-year line of full-size sport utility vehicles, including new versions of its Chevy Tahoe and Cadillac Escalade, on Tuesday.

The 2007 SUVs will be more powerful and offer better fuel economy than their current counterparts, GM said in a statement.

The automaker said the new vehicles will have a "sleeker, cleaner and athletic form," which will contribute to their improved performance efficiency.

The new SUV platform supports two wheelbase lengths, three bodystyles and 12 different models, GM said.

The Tahoe, a best-seller, along with the GMC Yukon/Yukon Denali and Cadillac Escalade, will be available in first quarter of 2006.

Extended wheel-base versions -- including the Chevy Suburban and Avalanche, GMC Yukon XL and Yukon XL Denali, Cadillac Escalade ESV and Escalade EXT -- will be introduced in the second quarter of next year.

"The breadth of products means customers don't have to compromise when accommodating their lifestyle choices, and vehicle-wide improvements increase the capability of the new vehicles in exactly the ways that drive customers to full-size SUVs," said Gary White, vice president and vehicle line executive for full-size trucks at GM North America.

GM said the models feature wider front and rear tracks with a lower center of gravity, features that contribute to greater stability, as well as new brake and steering systems.
New safety features, including crash avoidance technology and roof-mounted air bags, are integrated into the vehicle structures.

The new SUVs will be available with hybrid gasoline/electric drivetrains some time in the year 2007, Robert Lutz, GM's vice chairman of global development, told reports, according to the Website CarConnection.com.

Despite the improvements, Lutz told reporters that he didn't expect to see increased sales of large SUV's next year, according to a report in Automotive News, an industry newspaper. He felt GM may be able to maintain its current level of sales while overall sales of large SUVs fall due to high fuel prices, according to the newspaper.

The TRG Pontiac GTOs came in 1-2 at Watkins Glen this past Saturday! Posted by Picasa

PONTIAC GTOs DOMINATE WATKINS GLEN!

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (September 24, 2005) -- After watching their TRG teammates win in the No. 64 Pontiac GTO.R last time at Watkins Glen in August and the last race at Phoenix, Andy Lally and Marc Bunting knew it was only a matter of time before their brand-new No. 65 GTO.R crossed the finish line first in class. Fittingly, Lally crossed the stripe just ahead of Jan Magnussen in the No. 64 machine to take the GT victory in the Crown Royal 250 at The Glen.
In a race that saw six full-course cautions, Bunting and Lally avoided major trouble to log their second GT victory of the season--and ninth top-10 finish--but their first win in the GTO.R they debuted at Daytona International Speedway in July. However, it wasn't completely smooth sailing for the No. 65 duo, as Bunting slid off-course in Turn 9 and scraped the tire wall on the first lap.

"It was a busy start, there was a lot of traffic, and there were a lot of people trying to get by," Bunting said. "I got forced off-line by someone and they got me into the marbles. We had some contact with the tire wall. Fortunately the Pontiac is built strong. When I hit that wall, I didn't expect to be here at the end of the race. The car was good for Andy and it was good for me."
Bunting spent the remainder of his stint making up positions before handing the car over to Lally on Lap 15 for what would be an eventful double stint. Just after making his final pit stop of the afternoon under full-course caution on Lap 41, Lally found his way past a slowing Magnussen for second place at almost the same time as five cars tangled in Turn 4.

It would become the decisive pass in the race, as a late pit stop by leader Spencer Pumpelly in the No. 36 Ajilon Consulting/TPC Superchargers Porsche GT3 Cup handed the lead to Lally. Despite Magnussen's best efforts in the closing laps, he would come no closer than three-tenths of a second at the finish, and Bunting and Lally made it three wins in the last four races for a Pontiac GTO.R. Even more importantly, the victory moved Lally and Bunting to within just five points (323-318) of GT championship leader Craig Stanton with two races remaining on the schedule.

"We had it set up where Magnussen wasn't going to take too many chances," Lally said. "I saw Spencer Pumpelly coming and he was coming fast, so we just held it on. Jan watched my back a little bit, and they knew where we were in the points. I have to say thanks to them, it was a whole team effort and these guys did really good job. It was a solid effort by all. It has turned our points championship around."

For Magnussen and Edwards, it was their third top-two finish in their past four starts, and was their fourth top-five showing in the five Rolex Series races they've run this season. A late-race caution was the only thing that slowed TRG's two Pontiac GTO.Rs from cruising to the finish line of the historic Watkins Glen track and to the cars' third GT win in six weeks of Rolex Series competition - a run that has included nine top-five results in 11 finishes.

"I was in the car for an hour and 40 minutes and I think I did 10 green laps," said Magnussen. "It was actually a pretty easy race. Paul and the guys did a good job testing last week and it showed right from the first session, and the car was noticeably better."
"I was glad to see the No. 65 guys win the race," Edwards added. "For us, it was a great TRG result. We're looking forward to going to the next race."

Pumpelly and co-driver Randy Pobst wound up third in the No. 36 TPC Racing Porsche, followed by Ian James and Chris Gleason in the No. 22 BMW Financial Services M3 for BMW Team PTG. Kelly Collins and RJ Valentine made it two PTG machines inside the top five with a fifth-place outing in the No. 17 F1 BMW M3.

Aside from Bunting and Lally, it was a tough day for the front runners in the GT driver standings. No. 16 F1 Air BMW M3 driver Joey Hand slipped from sole possession of second place in the standings to a tie for fourth with David Murry, following a 13th-place class result. Hand joined the race several laps down after co-driver Justin Marks crashed in Turn 11 on Lap 4.
Stanton, meanwhile, started 10th in class in the No. 80 Synergy Racing Porsche GT3 Cup 10th and remained in position to score solid points before handing the car over to co-driver Murry on Lap 28. Murry found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, as he was involved in a five-car accident on Lap 44. However, Murry was able to limp the car back to its pit and returned to the track for a 12th place class finish and kept Stanton atop the points table.

Milka Duno Completes Successful Champ Car Test with HVM!

Indianapolis, IN (September 8, 2005) – Sports Car Champion, Milka Duno made a successful debut in the HVM Champ Cars this week when she completed 360 trouble-free miles at Sebring International Raceway.

“Milka impressed us in her first Champ Car test,” commented team owner and managing director, Keith Wiggins. He continued, “she ran two full days, she made no mistakes, she was smart with her approach and she gained confidence with every lap. Her feedback was very good, she adjusted to the car quickly. The conditions were difficult being that it was very hot and humid but she proved she was certainly up to the task.”

Duno got her first taste of the 750 horsepower turbocharged thoroughbred on Tuesday when she completed over 90 miles in the #4 HVM machine working with Bjorn Wirdheim’s crew. She spent the majority of the day getting used to the difference in horsepower, the handling and braking the Ford-Cosworth/Lola combination produces. While it was an entirely new experience for Duno, there was a familiar voice on the radio, Will Phillips, the race engineer for the #4 team, engineered Duno in the Reynard 01Q while she drove for Dick Barber Racing in 2001.

Day two, Wednesday, Milka drove the #55 Champ Car and worked with Rodolfo Lavin’s crew and engineer Michael Cannon. With the experience and confidence of her first day in the books, Duno spent the second day of the test working on the braking points and the corner entry and exits, each lap, improving her times with her best time coming in the low 55 second range. Duno commented on her first Champ Car experience, “It was a great honor to test a Champ Car and I am very grateful to HVM for offering me the test. It was a very powerful and physical car to drive but really fun. It is also very challenging, as there are so many things to think about to make the car go faster. I can’t wait to drive a Champ Car again.”

While the HVM team returns to their headquarters to prepare for round 11 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in two weeks time, Milka heads to Phoenix International Raceway to continue her quest in the Rolex Grand American Series behind the wheel of the #2 CITGO Pontiac/Crawford at this weekend’s Phoenix 250.

Earning three victories, and eight podium finishes in just five years; HVM has enjoyed early success in the Champ Car World Series. With more than 2.2 million people attending Champ Car races annually and a massive worldwide audience, HVM also offers a range of proven marketing and advertising platforms to enhance the business of its corporate partners. For more information on HVM and its partners, visit www.HVMRacing.com.

MILKA DUNO TO TEST CHAMP CAR!

In only her second year of racing Duno was named "Venezuelan Auto Racing Driver of the Year" and won her first series championship in the Panoz GT Series. In 2001 she was crowned Vice-Champion Driver in the LMP 675 class of the American Le Mans Series. A full-time competitor in the 2005 Rolex Grand American Sports Car Series, Milka drives the No. 2 CITGO Pontiac Crawford Daytona Prototype and earned her third Rolex Series overall win in July at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant in Quebec.

A qualified Naval Engineer with four master's degrees in Organizational Development, Naval Architecture, Marine Biology and Maritime Business, the last three earned simultaneously, Milka has proven her desire and dedication for achievement on and off the track. Milka is the Hispanic spokesperson for CITGO Petroleum Corporation and the face of Pontiac's National Hispanic advertising campaign. While the test with HVM will be her first in a Champ Car, Duno is familiar with open wheel racing; with experience in the Barber Dodge Pro Series, as well as the World Series Light and World Series Pro Championships - becoming the first woman in history to score points in the European series.Duno looks forward to the Champ Car experience; "I'm very excited and honored by the invitation from HVM Racing to test a Champ Car. The opportunity to drive one of the world's fastest and most powerful race cars is a dream come true for me and I am really looking forward to getting behind the wheel."

OnStar to offer service e-mails!

By Jamie LaReau--Automotive News / September 13, 2005

DETROIT -- As General Motors attempts to promote value over incentives, the automaker and OnStar now are offering vehicle diagnostics service to subscribers at no extra charge. The service will automatically perform hundreds of diagnostics checks on GM vehicles in four of the vehicle's operating systems: the engine/transmission, antilock brakes, airbags and OnStar. OnStar will e-mail the results to the owner each month. The e-mail message will tell subscribers whether something needs to be fixed and encourage the owner to hit the OnStar button in the vehicle to follow up with an OnStar technician for guidance.

Ultimately, the service is intended to gives consumers peace of mind and boost GM customer loyalty. Competitive edge The vehicle diagnostics technology will add to the conquest and loyalty rate among customers for GM vehicles, says Chet Huber, OnStar president. "You're always looking for where you have a competitive edge. We have OnStar and they don't," says Mark LaNeve, vice president of GM's vehicle sales, service and marketing. LaNeve says OnStar will promote the technology, and GM will incorporate it within GM divisional advertising. Anecdotal data from dealers show that OnStar, which GM owns, has helped generate about 20 percent of showroom traffic this year, twice the rate of the year-ago period, Huber says. OnStar is a factor in a customer's decision to buy a vehicle, LaNeve adds. LaNeve declined to specify how much GM is spending to embed the vehicle diagnostics technology in OnStar's hardware. He calls it a "significant investment."

"In an era of really intense competition, we're exclusively trying to drive our price points down in a lot of segments we compete in, and adding any content is a tough decision," LaNeve says. "We wouldn't have done this without a business case that makes sense, and more importantly, (offers) clear evidence of customer value." Nearly 30,000 times a month, OnStar subscribers use the remote diagnostics service to check vehicle performance problems or ask questions. Huber estimates 75 percent of OnStar subscribers will opt to use the diagnostics service. The service is available with basic OnStar service. OnStar is free during the first year of vehicle ownership. After that, the basic service costs $16.95 a month.

2006 Lucerne Pricing Announcement!

With start of production of the new 2006 Buick Lucerne only a few weeks
away, I wanted to share our pricing for this exceptional new luxury sedan.
A complete price schedule will be released today on gmpricing.com.

The Lucerne has been eagerly anticipated by all of us this past year, and
it is vitally important to Buick. Positioning Lucerne competitively in the
market place is a top priority, and a key part of our strategy is to
benchmark against the Toyota Avalon, considered the newest and most
aggressive entry in our competitive set.

I am pleased to announce that the introductory MSRP of the Lucerne CX will
be $26,990, including a $725 DFC. This is a very compelling starting price
point and positions Lucerne very aggressively in the entry luxury segment.
The CX includes cloth seating, six standard airbags (including a segment
first dual-depth front passenger airbag), QuietTuning, OnStar (including
one year of the Directions and Connections Service), and 16" aluminum
wheels. The Lucerne CXL V6 is priced at $28,990, and the CXL V8 is priced
at $30,990 (DFC included in both cases). Standard equipment on the CXL
includes leather seating surfaces, power passenger seat, and 17" premium
painted aluminum wheels. The flagship of the Lucerne model line-up, the
CXS V8, is priced at $35,990 (including DFC). This model includes a high
level of standard equipment including fog lamps, bright accents, NorthStar
V8, magnetic ride control, StabiliTrak, five passenger perforated leather
seating surfaces, 18" premium painted aluminum wheels, and a host of other
luxury features.

Throughout its development, Lucerne has been designed to cover the price
range from LeSabre through Park Avenue. The base MSRP of the Lucerne CX
is $460 below the 2005 LeSabre and offers significantly more standard
content including a 4 year/50,000 mile limited warranty, 1st and 2nd row
side curtain airbags, traction control, 16" aluminum wheels, compass, and
driver information center. When adjusted for equipment, the Lucerne CX is
priced $2,250 MSRP below a comparable 2005 LeSabre.

As I mentioned, we priced Lucerne to be very competitive against the 2006
Toyota Avalon. The base MSRP of the Lucerne CX is $175 below the Avalon
XL. In addition, Lucerne CX offers standard one year OnStar service
(Directions and Connections), QuietTuning, and a 4 year/50,000 mile limited
warranty. With our Lucerne CX pricing, we should be well positioned to
appeal to Buick loyalists and compete against key imports.

The CXL is the "sweet spot" of the Lucerne line up with exceptional content
at an attractive price of $28,990 MSRP. The CXL V6 will be the feature car
for national advertising with a high level of content. We will advertise a
starting price of $26,990 (as shown $28,990 MSRP). But the real story is
the Lucerne CXL V8, which offers compelling value among V8 luxury cars.
With an MSRP of $30,990, the Lucerne CXL V8 offers a 275 horsepower
Northstar V8 that can go head to head against high end imports like the
Lexus GS and Infiniti M which start above $45,000 MSRP.

Lucerne is a strong proof point for Buick's Total Value Promise with
premium content, a compelling safety story, and a strong value story. With
available features like the NorthStar V8, magnetic ride control, heated and
cooled front seats, heated washer fluid, and a premium harman/kardon 280
watt sound system, and the industry's first dual-depth front passenger
airbag, this vehicle represents a quantum leap forward for Buick. Lucerne
is a luxury car which shares bloodlines with the great Buick vehicles of
the past. We think it will go a long way toward changing perceptions about
Buick and driving new customers to your showroom.

Because Lucerne is all-new and will appeal to a very discriminating
consumer, please make sure your sales team is properly trained. A PDF of
the Lucerne Details book has been posted on buicklaunch.com since the
beginning of August. You can also find a "How to Order Guide" in the
distribution section of buicklaunch.com. By month-end each of your
dealerships will receive printed copies of the Details Book, a Lucerne
walk-around DVD, and pocket guides. Our 28 City Training Tour begins on
September 26 in San Francisco. This is an interactive half day event that
will give your sales consultants a chance to drive the new Lucerne against
key competition. Please make sure your sales team has enrolled at
gmtraining.com.

We felt it important to share our pricing with Buick Dealers before we
announced to the public. Plans are in place for a dramatic launch
befitting this outstanding product, which will begin in the mid-November
timeframe. We look forward to sharing details with you at the Dealer
Business Conference this October. In the meantime, thanks and good
selling.

FIRST G6 CONVERTIBLE...CREATED BY KATRINA!

The horrendous disaster caused by Katrina in New Orleans and Mississippi is dramatized in this photo of a G6 sedan which was turned into a convertible by the forces of nature.
